When I first started growing cannabis 12 years ago it was like anything else, trial and error. For anyone that has grown cannabis before you realize that this is trail and error on steroids, what I mean by that is you’re going to make a lot of errors. Now anyone can grow sub-par cannabis, but frankly anyone that throws good seeds in the ground and doesn’t implement most of what occurs in commercial grows could probably grow better cannabis than what you will get at a dispensary. I firmly believe the reason for this is that people are not customizing their grow to their needs, CHGC specializes in this. Some people (like me in the beginning) will bite off more than they can chew, i.e. trying to grow more plants and have a larger canopy than they should as a first time grower. The problem with swinging for the fences in terms of size on your first round is that you will naturally incur challenges and these challenges are exacerbated if you have a larger grow, so often times I recommend starting with just a handful of plants. In 2014 I had over 77 plants only using 1600 watts of electricity (I was so green).
If you don’t smoke very much, don’t grow very much, if you’re going on vacation in six months maybe grow a little more so that you can harvest before vacation and have enough to last you until your next harvest after you start your grow back up. If you have a smaller budget grow less, if you have a larger budget spend money on the correct products, this is something as a novice grower is going to be hard to determine.
If you’re working off a limited amount of power, you’ll want to use less energy consumption (this is often determined by your home’s amperage). This is one of the most important and overlooked parts of growing cannabis.
