The Posts Continue
The first installment of this blog post series was “why you should grow your own cannabis, your health” the second was “the cost.” This third installment really centers around the pride that you will take not only in growing your own cannabis, but consuming medicine that you have put several months of time energy and (done correctly) love into.

The First Time I Consumed Cannabis I Grew Myself
To truly illustrate this love, I will tell a quick story about very first time that I ever grew and consumed my own cannabis. Yes this is a story about my very first harvest October 2012. Firstly I’m the type who likes to take tolerance breaks, sometimes a month, sometimes six. But for this holy occasion I took an entire revolution around the sun and completely hit he restart button at 12 months. To say I was excited to smoke my first homegrown harvest is an gross understatement.
The strain I chose was Jack Herer, an all time classic and my personal favorite strain (at least at the time), also my favorite cannabis activist. I went out got a haircut, some new threads (no I’m not kidding) and made sure I was stocked up on my favorite munchies. It was a Friday afternoon after work and I had several of my favorite flicks ready to watch after since I knew I was going to be blitzed out of my mind. After just one puff I was in love, not only was the small batch homegrown delicious, I got high as a kite within about 2 minutes. I was living in an apartment complex at the time sitting on my balcony and the passersby got me so paranoid (this was in Indiana) that I finished the second half of the skinny joint in my apartment, the night was everything I had hoped.
I’d smoke the strain a few times, specifically six years prior when I was living in Los Angeles in 2006 / 2007 from medical dispensaries, and as great as the strain always was, this time was different. It’s an entirely different experience to not only grow it yourself, but to have your tolerance at zero really allows you to experience the subtle nuances of the strain itself, something that is hard to accomplish when you are an everyday smoker, which I typically am.
This is the quintessential “enjoying the fruits of your labor” scenario. Typically I will take my time in veg and will do a six month from seed to cure grow process. That six months in and of itself can feel like the journey and the destination, right up until the point that you wrap your lips around a joint of your favorite organically grown strain and take a pull.
For me and hopefully most people cannabis consumption is a reflective experience and this time was the prime example of this. Looking back to the prior six months and thinking about how the all the hard work and learning was worth it and frankly how much money I stood to make with my distribution network, which was just as excited as I was to get this product into the hands of the connoisseurs that were anticipating it.
It just hits different when you’ve done something yourself, not just the growing and harvesting, but even conceiving the idea and having the balls to go for it 100%. The consumption of Jack on that first harvest was one of the best days of my life and unbeknownst to me at the time it would set my life in the current trajectory it’s on as a cannabis entrepreneur, but more importantly a cannabis activist and philanthropist. One love.
