We Have Fucked up Legalization
Anyone that knows me knows that I believe that we have royally and I mean royally fucked up “legalization” in this country. It is the reason I started my consultancy. Cannabis is not legal in the United States, not in a single state, by any stretch of the imagination. It’s taxed and regulated nothing more.

What You Can do With Your Cannabis One You Purchase it
You go to a dispensary, you pay a ridiculous tax rate to get some pesticide laced, mold contaminated, PGR injected, chemically weighed down dog shit I wouldn’t let my worst enemy smoke, and then what can you do with said product? Can you go to a park and enjoy the day with it? No. What about a cannabis lounge, where you can sit down and consume like in Amsterdam? Nope. I can smoke it in my parked car right? Nope. Okay but I can walk down the street and smoke the way I can cigarettes right? Nope (maybe in NY, but I’ll believe that when I go there and put it to the test.) Okay, but surely I can smoke in my own backyard on my property correct!? That’s a gray area, at least in IL, not that I don’t smoke plenty in my own backyard.
Legalized Poison
We do not possess any of the liberties afforded to people that consume other legal products, such as nicotine, alcohol and pharmaceutical drugs. I have to expose the elephant in the room when I say that those products combined directly or indirectly kill hundreds of thousands of Americans each year. Cannabis – ZERO deaths in five thousand years of recorded use.
So how did we get here? Well, I hate to be this cynical, but sadly it’s the American way. Lets let corporate greed take over every single legal market and leave the consumer to fend for themselves. In IL all we virtually have are MSOs or multi-state operators. Largely companies that had dispensaries in places like California, Colorado, Washington and Oregon. These MSOs have the money and clout to lobby congress and make sure that laws are passed in a way that benefit them and no one else.
In addition to this structure cannabis is taxed so aggressively in IL and in other states where there is a dispensary on every corner (like when I lived in Denver) producers have to cut every corner imaginable just to have a snowball’s chance in hell of turning a profit. So I don’t necessarily blame retailers and producers as much as I do the government. And don’t even get me started on restrictions on home grows. You can brew beer in 50 states legally at home, alcohol contains ethanol a literal poison, cannabis is life and a literal medicine and the most efficacious known to man.
I have to give a shot out to my people at L’Eagle Denver, the ONLY dispensary I’ve ever been to that had product that smoked like home grown, their product is exceptional and still a fraction of the cost of IL cannabis. I’m sure there are other great players out there, but I have yet to encounter them and I’ve consumed cannabis in over 18 “legal” states now.
I tell people to grow their own for selfish reasons admittedly, I’ve taught many people how to grow for themselves and made a good living doing it. But I do it more to protect consumers from what is out there in most MSO locations, as well as to not pay taxes to an evil corrupt government where they tax exorbitant tax rates on one hand while incarcerating minorities at a rate of 4:1 (black compared to white people specifically) on the other hand. It makes me sick to my stomach. Keep pushing, keep fighting, keep growing. One love.
